Egypt scraps foreign currency caps on goods importers The Central Bank of Egypt has removed caps on deposits and withdrawals of foreign currency for importers of non-essential goods in a sign of improving dollar liquidity in Egyptian banks. It comes a year after Egypt floated its currency against the dollar in order to clinch a loan deal with the IMF.

'Only on review for a downgrade': South African rand rebounds The South African rand reversed course and rallied against the US dollar on Monday amid relief that the sovereign dodged a cut to junk by Moody's. In New York action, the currency gained 0.81 per cent on the greenback to ZAR13.78. It traded as weak as ZAR14.10 in the European trading session.
